The Power of Voodoo by SlannMage The Power of Voodoo by SlannMage
My updated Jareth costume for the Pittsburgh Comicon last weekend.

The costume consists of fiberglass armor, a six layered cloak, sewn leather, and lots of glitter.

Hi! Yes I will be at this year's Con. I'll be dressed as Scabior from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Shadow Weaver? As in from She-Ra the Princess of Power? Awesome!

I'll be sure to say hi if I run into you on Sunday.

This is awesome and I'm SO mad -- I live in PGH and had to miss comicon last weekend due to being really really broke...I could have seen this fabulosity in person! Seriously, probably the best, most detailed Jareth costume *I'VE* ever seen. Remarkable work. Love the cloak.

You should go on Sunday - you get in free if you're wearing a costume. There were some amazing costumes this year; a Robocop cast from the original screen used suit and a Chewbacca that was nearly ten feet tall.

Thanks so much, I hope to wear it again to some other Cons near the Pittsburgh area.

It can be a bit daunting, but I've had a lot of trial and error with fiberglass in the past.

Is it expensive to work with fiberglass? Do you work with it in your own home or do you have to go somewhere?

:iconslannmage:

Not too expensive, you can get a decent amount of fiberglass cloth for around 5 dollars and the resin itself goes for around $20. These can both be found at Walmart in the auto body section or any car supply store.

However, and I stress this FIBERGLASS RESIN IS VERY DANGEROUS. Before working with it you must be in a ventilated area or even better outside, as well as have proper breathing equipment and heavy gloves (MEKP the kicking agent in fiberglass is one if the most powerful carcinogenics known to man. If you play with this stuff then you WILL get a cancer and die. Even breathing heavy amounts of the vapor will kill you (eventually). It will also cause blindness if ANY quantity gets into your eye and is not flushed out within 4 seconds.)

So before playing with fiberglass do be careful!!!

Hahaha sorry. I just had to stress than; there are a lot of tutorials online that seem to skip over the fact that fiberglass resin can be dangerous if used improperly.

I also hope to update some bits before I wear it again, namely the wig and the boots.

Thanks so much! When ever I approach a costume I try to embody the character. Little details, especially makeup can break the illusion.

I've seen some decent Jareth costumes, that with a little more time spent on perfecting the makeup or trimming the wig could be amazing.

It is all about the illusion isn't it?

I'm glad you've seen some decent goblin kings out there,
gives me hope, you know? :)

Good luck with your future costuming endeavours!
